IN CONVERSATION|CHARLES CELLIER
Name|Charles Cellier
Age|22
Hometown|San Diego, California
How did you get discovered?
When I was in university, I was able to travel quite a bit—New York, Paris, Barcelona—and in each location, I was scouted by agencies. However, my education (well, finishing it) was my priority, and once I finished it, things fell into place.
What were you doing prior to modeling?
Before modeling full-time, I was a student at Northeastern University in Boston. I had a passion for humanitarian issues (nuclear disarmament, in particular), and was studying international affairs—After my freshman year, I worked at the UN Institute for Disarmament Research and was somewhat disenchanted by political sluggishness. However, I still have strong feelings for the United Nations and what they do.
What's your latest obsession?
Gardening! I am fortunate enough to have a garden in the city, and am trying to grow tulips this year, fingers crossed, we will see!
Your most prize possession?
Monsieur Lapinov! A stuffed bunny—I've had since the day I was born—He used to be bigger than I was!
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
Growing up, I had an immense amount of respect towards Charles De Gaulle (Laughs). My family in France were supporters of him and I had a chance to visit his home and grave. In retrospect, he did a lot for France, even if he wasn't always the most well-loved guy.
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
Two people: my mom and my roommate and (almost) my sister, Chloe.
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Daring, Indecisive and Driven
Describe your personal style:
I have to say my style would be classy with a youthful edge. Running around a lot, my style has to be quick and fluid.
Your favorite place you have travel to:
There's something about the French Alps. There's a village called St. Pierre De Chartreuse that's tucked away and feels like it's been stuck in time. The air, sights and food as well as memories of time spent with my grandparents. It's incredible!
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
Catch Me If You Can—Scene: When Tom Hanks character is trying to catch Leonardo DiCaprio's character at the pool party. I wanted to be a con-man for a while after first seeing that movie. Sadly, I am definitely not sneaky enough for that!
Since you love cooking, can you create your version of a perfect menu?
Let's remember that a good dinner menu is always in accordance with the seasonal availability of fruits and vegetables. For Fall, my menu would include something along the lines of:
Soup: Roasted squash and turnip veloute with fresh parsley and sage infused olive oil
Entree: Roasted chicken with provencal ratatouille (Grandma's recipe)
Dessert: Homemade meringues
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
San Diego, California—Del Mar Bluffs near Powerhouse Park in Del Mar. They have these truly amazing cliffs that overlook the Pacific Ocean, and the coaster train (California Amtrak) cuts by every now and then. It's honestly the most tranquil place for me—I've spent quite a bit of time reflecting there.
If you were given a indie cable show, what type of show would it be? Which song would you choose as your theme song?
A show awesome places around the world that I have been able to go to, and the culture that is a product of these places. Theme song is: Breezeblocks by Alt-J.
Craziest thing you ever done:
When I was living in Paris, I visited friends in London for fashion week. Both times, I took the Eurostar, I missed the train back and both times, I wound up sneaking back on it to avoid being stranded in London. That's quite crazy for me!
Your wish for the remainder of 2015?
I am aware I am just starting out but I would love to be able to book my first campaign before the year is up. Doing something for Kenzo, for example, would be really nice!
